Title of proposal:Towards a Sustainable Energy Future in the Americas: Implementing the recommendations of the IANAS Workshop
Summary:The InterAmerican Network of Academies of Sciences (IANAS) will work with its member Academies and others to implement the recommendations of IAC report, "Lighting the Way". The priorities for actions were defined at an IANAS workshop - Toward a sustainable energy future in the Western Hemisphere - from Oct. 30-31, 2008, in Buenos Aires. The action areas include science-based advice to the IANAS member governments, energy efficiency from source to final use, a roadmap for renewable energy sources, vigorous capacity building, bringing electricity to unserved communities, citizen-focused information and education, and collaboration with multilateral agencies.
