Biography
Erik Ingelsson was born in 1975 in Eskilstuna, Sweden and graduated with a medical degree in 2000 from Uppsala University. He defended his thesis ‘Insulin Resistance and Inflammation as Risk Factors for Congestive Heart Failure’ and was awarded his PhD in 2005. During 2000 to 2006 he was doing his internship and residency in general practice in Gavle and Uppsala. After a post-doc at the Framingham Heart Study in 2006-2007, and positions as Assistant and Associate Professor in Uppsala and at Karolinska Institutet in 2007-2010, he was appointed Professor of Cardiovascular Epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet in 2010. Participated in the 4th IAP Young Scientists Conference in Dalian held in conjunction with the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting of the New Champions, September 2011. "Participating in the IAP Young Scientists Conference in Dalian was a truly great experience for me in many ways. It has given me new insights and ideas, about science and innovation, but it was also an important experience to meet other young scientists from diverse backgrounds." Prof. Ingelsson's research area is cardiovascular epidemiology with a special focus on metabolic disturbances, such as obesity and insulin resistance and their role in the development of subclinical and clinical cardiovascular disease. Although also using traditional epidemiological approaches suited for some research questions, the main focus is molecular epidemiology; studies of how cardiovascular disease and related conditions varies with DNA variation, RNA expression, circulating biomarkers such as proteins and metabolites, as well as with structures and functions measured by imaging.
