The Georgian Academy of Sciences (GAS), established in 1941, is an autonomous body financed by the Georgian government. GAS is the highest scientific institution conducting and coordinating fundamental research in the natural sciences and the humanities in Georgia. It oversees 9 scientific departments of the Academy with 58 scientific research institutes. GAS has 65 members and 73 corresponding members. GAS has established close relations and promotes bilateral cooperation with scientific organizations in various countries. GAS oversees the richest depository of manuscripts and rare book collections in the country.
