Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) was founded in 1959 to promote the study, extension and dissemination of the arts and sciences in Ghana and honour eminent scholars through their election as fellows. The Academy, whose membership currently totals 65, publishes the J.B. Danquah Memorial lectures and Academy proceedings, organizes symposia and meetings, bestows awards on citizens for their distinguished contributions in science, technology and the arts, and maintains contact with other academies in other countries.
