The Hungarian Academy of Sciences, founded in 1825, has been regarded as a national institution throughout its 175-year history and continues to play an active role in the life of the state and nation. The Academy has 200 members under 70 years of age; however, those over 70 still retain their membership. Currently the Academy has 320 members. The Academy conducts scientific workshops, gives the nation counsel and acts as a public body representing the professional interests of researchers.
