The Indian National Science Academy (INSA) was established in 1935 to promote science in India and honour eminent scientists primarily through their election as Fellows to the Academy. Today the number of Fellows is 662 and the number of Foreign Fellows is 119. The Academy bestows awards on scientists for their distinguished contributions in diverse areas of science and technology and has cooperative exchange programmes with societies, academies and learned bodies in 15 countries. The Academy publishes journals and reports, recognizes young scientists through an awards scheme, and arranges seminars and symposia. President: Professor M. Vijayan Vice Presidents: Professors N.
