The Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) was founded in 1982 as an autonomous academic body and was given additional autonomy by Parliament in 1992. The main objectives expressed in Parliament's Act are to develop the national science and technology policy of Nepal and advise the Government as an national science and technology apex body in the country; to improve and promote indigenous technologies; to promote research in science and technology and to identify and facilitate appropriate technology transfer.
