The UNION (Union der deutschen Akademien der Wissenschaften) consists of the seven Academies of Sciences and Humanities in the Federal Republic of Germany (Berlin, Münich, Göttingen, Leipzig, Heidelberg, Mainz and Düsseldorf). The aim of the academies is to co-ordinate their activities, notably in basic research. The Union conducts joint research ventures and promotes colloquia and symposia. It also represents the academies in national and international scientific organizations.
