The Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST) is an honorific and scientific learned society founded in 1994 to serve as advisor to the government, a guide to the general public, a counselor to the young generation of scientists and engineers, and collaborate with scientific academies in other countries. The membership of the KAST consists of 483 Fellows, 261 Fellows Emeriti, 51 Associate Members, 66 Foreign Members and 6 Honorary Members.

The main tasks of the Academy are to: provide independent advice to the government and related bodies on scientific and engineering issues; promote science and technology by hosting scientific meetings such as symposia, forums, colloquia and roundtable discussions; publish scientific books authored by members, encourage scientific activities through the awarding of prizes; operate the Science Hall of Fame and develop international collaboration.
