InterAcademy Panel Biodiversity Conference: Integrating ecosystem services into biodiversity management
The aim for this conference is to explore how the ecosystem services concept can be integrated into biodiversity management. Drawing on the insights of science, economics and policy-making, this conference will explore technical innovations, research gaps and the science policy interface. Discussions will focus on determining actions required for effective management, protection and enhancement of the natural environment. The conference will draw together experts from around the world to share innovations, successes and challenges and it will explore the links between international science and policy, while examining projects from the local to the national scale. Panel discussion: Members of the panel will each be invited to reflect briefly on the earlier discussions of the conference, draw out gaps in science and policy, and identify potential ways forward. The panel represents a variety of backgrounds and disciplines and will present their own conclusions before a general debate is opened on the floor. Discussions will focus on integrating an ecosystem services-based approach into biodiversity management, examining the challenges for science, and the mechanisms and institutions that influence biodiversity management.
