The world’s science academies have been invited by the World Economic Forum for the third year running to nominate outstanding young scientists through the IAP network of science academies. Selected young scientists will be invited to attend the third Young Scientists Conference held in conjunction with the Forum's "Annual Meeting of the New Champions", otherwise known as "Summer Davos"  This year's theme is : Driving Growth through Sustainability, and the programme will focus on how to increase energy efficiency, lower carbon emissions, develop green technology and rebuild basic infrastructure.

The World Economic Forum and IAP will facilitate the participation of 60 outstanding young scientists in the event, to be integrated into the Forum's meeting which will involve around 1500 participants.

08:00 – 11:00 Building Successful Business-University Partnerships
The successful partnerships that exist between some of the world's leading universities and top corporations have not always been easily replicated.
What are the factors that lead to a successful and results-oriented cooperation?
Discussions will be held on ways in which stronger and more successful university/business relationships can be formed, especially in emerging markets.

14.15 - 16.45 Advancing Green Technologies for Sustainability
It is widely acknowledged and accepted that finding clean solutions to meet our
energy requirements is an absolute necessity for a sustainable future.
What alternative, green energy solutions already exist and how can they be scaled
up and replicated to meet our energy needs?
Discussions will be held to explore new and innovative ways of advancing green
technologies for sustainability.

  • Mohamed H. A. Hassan, Executive Director, Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS), Italy
  • Christina Lampe-Önnerud, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Boston-Power, USA

On Thursday 16 September. the community of Young Scientists will embark on a visit to two of
Tianjin’s universities in order to meet and share experiences with local scientists.
The focus will be on biology, medicine and life sciences at Nankai University, and on energy, the environment and clean solutions at Tianjin University.

Throughout the official events, Young Scientists will have the opportunity to meet with technology pioneers and young global leaders. IAP will run an award scheme for young scientists who manage to establish a partnership with an entrepreneur at the Forum to carry out a "research to business" project.
