It consists of a national academy, and a membership of scientific and technological societies, regional societies, fellows and individuals. Established in 1867, the Royal Society has a long and proud history of representing scientists and fostering scientific endeavours in New Zealand.
<p>The society seeks to contribute to New Zealand society by promoting public awareness, knowledge and understanding of science and technology (S&amp;T); advancing S&amp;T education;providing expert advice on important issues to the Government and the community. It also supports New Zealand's community by encouraging, promoting and recognizing excellence in S&amp;T; providing support and a vehicle for the professional needs and development of scientists and technologists; establishing and administering a core of professional standards and ethics in S&amp;T for all members .
