The main object of the Academy is to promote science, letters&nbsp;and fine arts. The Academy assists the government by communicating its views on important national scientific and artistic issues and is the only institution that represents&nbsp;the country on various international bodies, such as the International Council for Science (ICSU) and L'Union Acad&eacute;mique Internationale.
<p>The Academy has three Sections: natural and applied sciences; letters and fine arts; and moral and political sciences and honours individuals of eminence by electing them as fellows or corresponding members. It publishes Transaction, Monographs and Minutes (Practica), as well as series of scientific and artistic books and pamphlets. The academy currently has a membership of 47.
