    <item><guid isPermaLink="false">4281-Tue, 12 Sep 2006 08:12:17 GMT</guid><title>Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities</title><link>http://www.interacademies.net/CMS/2950/4281.aspx</link><description><![CDATA[The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, founded in 1959, functions by virtue of a special act of the Knesset (Israel Parliament). As an elected body of the country's leading scholars, its principal aims and functions are to cultivate and promote work in the basic sciences and humanities, maintain contact with parallel bodies abroad, ensure the representation Israeli scholarship and science on international bodies and at international conferences, advise the government on matters of research and scientific planning of national significance, and to publish basic documents and works contributing to the advancement of science and scholarship. 
<P>The Academy established the Israel Science Foundation, and administers several other funds established by private donors. It maintains close relations with ministerial offices in matters relating to national science policy and higher education in Israel. The Academy represents Israel on international and regional scientific bodies and has agreements for scientific cooperation with more than 30 foreign academies and scholarly societies worldwide.
